My dad just hit the big old 5 last month! Hahaha he looks nothing like 50…cept for some grey hairs 😛
My mum made a cheesecake for his birthday on the actual day itself. She doesn’t like cheese so the rest of us just devoured the cake for the next two days. It was very yummy 🙂
Then for our usual celebratory buffet, we went to Irodori Japanese Restaurant at Riverview Hotel. Found it on one of those best buffets in Singapore listings LOL. And didn’t realize Riverview Hotel was just literally opposite Miramar Hotel, where Ikoi Restaurant was. We were there for my birthday buffet (click)! So that really made us compare the two.
Sadly I think Irodori wasn’t as impressive as Ikoi Restaurant 🙁 Liked Ikoi so much better and the food was better too. My parents said there was a lot more variety at Ikoi but I thought Irodori had a good enough selection on their menu. They are both ala carte buffets, which I like, because everyone still gets to sit together and interact, not going all over the place getting food haha. Though walking around to get food also helps digest a bit haha!
I also didn’t take too many photos of the food because the presentation wasn’t as good too haha. Only the sashimi of course. We ordered a platter of mixed sashimi, so that means not just salmon, but also octopus, tuna, swordfish and yellowtail or something..? Haha only the sashimi platter was presented nicely, but it is always about the sashimi at Japanese buffets isn’t it? The sashimi was really fresh, just that I don’t enjoy the other kinds of fish as much as sashimi…
Ambience wise, decor wise, service wise I think Ikoi and Irodori Restaurant are both similar? And as usual because it was an ala carte buffet, and it was full house that day, we had to wait realllllllly long for our orders. The first order was okay, because we were there at 11.40am, around when they opened. But subsequent orders took so long 🙁 We waited approx 20-30 minutes for a simple bowl of udon!
We ordered teapot soup and reused the small little teacups as rationing bowls when the udon came HAHA. Stupid things my family does. Quite sure other people would have judged us looking at us do that, but at least we were gonna eat it, we weren’t playing with food 😉
