Mt. Pilatus was my favourite.
I was totally in my element. The view was spectacular, and being surrounded by all that nature. Wow *-* We got a great bird’s eye view from up top, and I think all the pictures looked so amazing. If you’re like a nature lover, you’d love this place. Everything looked real nice, plus because we were way up on the peak, it was much cooler (around 16-18 degrees C) and there was a breeze (way colder if it’s not the summer though).
2,128m above sea level!
Mt. Pilatus overlooks the city of Lucerne, and is 2,128m above sea level. That’s.. pretty high. We had to take two different cable cars up to the peak. First was the Aerial Panorama Gondola, which Devika, Vaishu, Yibo and I shared. We were constantly looking out of our windows, and we passed by so much greenery. We could also see the whole city of Lucerne before our eyes as the gondola went on. Needless to say, we were already in awe.
The only way up? Cable cars!
We got off the Aerial Panorama Gondola at Fräkmüntegg and hopped on the new Aerial Cableway (‘Dragon Ride’) which only opened this April! It was a much larger cabin, able to accommodate about 50 people, and it took us further up the mountain. Our journey was from Kriens (foot of the mountain) to Pilatus Kulm (which means the peak).
Yibo and I embarked on our mini hike around the mountain, climbing up some steep stone steps before making a round to the main area where the rest of the facilities and tourists were. We came across this herd of goats up on the mountain, just chilling and eating some grass.
Daredevils out there might want to try out paragliding from Mt. Pilatus in the summer time. We were at least a good 10 paragliders taking off and they looked so cool from far. Definitely not something on my list yet…but maybe…
Unfortunately we only had a short amount of time to explore the place, but Mt. Pilatus offers lots of activities during the summer time. Many people from the tour went on the “Switzerland’s longest summer toboggan run” mid-way down the mountain, which is like a 1,350m cruise through the metal lanes. Haha I would’ve gone on that if we had more time 🙁
The breathtaking view made for great photo opportunities.
My oh my did we take loads of pictures hahaha. Reviewing the pictures got me smiling to my computer because I want to print every single one of them to put them up on my wall.
Places of nature like Mt. Pilatus are really right up my street and I love to see more of these places.
