After bidding December goodbye, we say hello to 2018! The last camera roll post of 2017 is late, but it’s better late than never right? Being the last month of the year and the festive season, December was spent mostly rushing with work, anxiously counting down to the trip, and spending Christmas and New Year’s with Yibo in Europe!

I see December in two halves. The first half of the month was spent rushing about meeting deadlines and going for work assignments like the Standard Chartered Marathon and the Santa Run (there was also an internal gyro event where I did live social media coverage for the first time). We also said goodbye to an account I’ve been working on since I started at the agency, with happy tears of course.
The second half of December I flew 13 hours alone to meet Yibo in London, where we kickstarted our 20-day long trip across Europe! It was all pretty exciting to be travelling with him and getting to spend so much time together. Quite thankful to have made the trip happen, and also extra thankful to the ones back at work that allowed me to take the days off hehe.
We also met up with friends over the trip, like Gerald + Jacelyn, Rachel + Anders, and travelled with Yibo’s friends over the two weeks. Never had a trip quite as lively.
I don’t celebrate Christmas very much, but this year was the most festive I’ve felt in a while. First it was the festivities with the people at the office. I didn’t take part in the office party much, but I guess seeing the rest have so much fun was sort of infectious. We had a huge Christmas dinner party at Faye’s house with some of the rest, exchanged our Secret Santa gifts, played Disturbed Friends, and had too much food. It was an amazing night to remember and am forever thankful to have met this bunch through gyro in the past year 🙂
This year was the first time I celebrated Christmas away from home and my family, but at least I spent it with Yibo. We were in Amsterdam with his friends, and we had this Christmas dinner prepared in the apartment. One of his friends bought Christmas crackers, and they also set up the table with placards. We sat around the table wearing Christmas hats and had dinner during the eve, and Yibo and I got to spend Christmas day exploring Amsterdam with Gerald and Jacelyn.
I guess being in Europe in December also made me feel extra festive – fairy lights, Christmas trees, and huge markets everywhere really does the trick!
For some reason I thought I had the ability to blog while travelling in Europe in the second half of December. But I had so many things on my plate at work, plus packing and preparing for the trip really took up all my time, so honestly, blogging took the backseat this December. Unfortunately…there was only one post.
I have plenty of draft posts, and I’m trying to make it a point to post something regularly this 2018. Having a self-determined schedule and deadline for the blog requires a lot of effort and discipline – which sometimes I don’t have – so hopefully this ‘new year new me’ phase will power me through a productive January.
