Hello!

I’m JT, a full-time photographer based in Singapore, and I specialise in portrait photography.

Since I was younger, I’ve always enjoyed taking photos on a camera, but only when I was travelling. Months after finally purchasing my first DSLR (Canon 80D), my cousin had requested for my help to capture simple prewedding photos for her. It was only after that I had the idea to do photography as a side gig. It took a whole year before I made things official in 2019 with my Instagram account @jtwonggg.photography.

What started out as a casual side gig though, eventually became my full-time job at the start of 2021. I had experienced severe burnout from my corporate job and wanted to take time off to pursue photography as a hobby that brought me happiness. Inspired by fellow female portrait photographers I followed on Instagram, I reached out to influencers online to collaborate with me for photoshoots.

I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone then – reaching out to strangers online and putting myself out there on social media to share my photography work. With the momentum I had built from my social media presence, I gathered the courage to leave my job in January 2021 to become a full time photographer!

I felt like a brand new woman embarking onto this freelance journey. Ahead of quitting my job, I learnt and unlearnt many things in order to finally get the courage to create the life I wanted. I realised that I’d been holding myself back because of my insecurities and fears for most of my life. That life-changing realisation came after I started making an effort to care for myself – I took time to rest, to read, and to listen to my feelings so I knew what my triggers were.

In just a span of a year or less, I’ve made so much progress and I cannot be prouder of myself.

Now, I wish to use my platform not just as a marketing channel for my photography work, but also as a space to share my growth journey so others could make their own life-changing realisations.
